OUR TWO DAY ROCK SESSION

KZR Music Rock Sessions
Talented young musicians putting on a show at our Hemel Hempstead Rock Session during the Summer Holiday.

THE SESSIONS
We believe that music is all about playing in bands, meeting new people and having fun. We carefully group our students (11-17 years) into small groups
for two full days (10am-4pm both days) of rehearsals, jamming and performing under the guidance of a dedicated instructor. The bands work towards the grand finale 'friends and family' showcase gig at the end of the final day. This professionally staged event makes rock stars out of all our students and they are buzzing with confidence afterwards.

Every band is made up of the classic rock line up (vocals/bass/drums/guitar/keys) and are carefully put together taking age and ability into consideration. The aim of our sessions is to give each student the experience of playing in a live band and to provide an opportunity for students to meet new musicial friends. Many of our older students submit their filmed performance towards their Music GCSE.

Please note: our courses are not suitable for beginners. For instrument specific guidelines please refer to our FAQ's

THE REHEARSALS
Everything is done as a band in separate rehearsal rooms and led by professional teachers who act as coaches and bring out the very best in all our young musicians as they develop musically and socially during their time with us.
See 'Shut Up and Let Me Go' (below right) to see a younger band during rehearsals.

We have scheduled rehearsal sessions spread over the two days with regular 15 minute quiet breaks plus lunch where the different bands have a chance to relax, socialise and quiz the instructors.

THE SONGS
We spend a huge amount of time selecting and arranging suitable songs for the bands on our sessions. We don't like be to too obvious in our choices and regularly go 'off the beaten track' introducing new bands and artists to our students. We cover both classic and modern rock songs, some which will get you rocking as a band in no time and others which may prove more challenging.

Examples of songs which have worked well include Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix, Uprising by MUSE and Teenage Kicks by The Undertones.

We always encourage our students to suggest songs ahead of the session, often in our growing KZR Music facebook group, as it's a great way to involve our young musicians in the programme and also means that we keep our fingers on the pulse!
